The Quaker testimonies on community (understanding the individual has an impact on the group and the group on the individual) and stewardship (taking care of the community, relationships, and the environment) are foundational connections in our Quaker School. Stewardship activities are an important way to braid together our values and our experiences. In addition to bettering the community, and the spaces we occupy, stewardship provides a positive experience for our students.
Our grade nine advisories returned to service-learning during the school day this year, with monthly service work on and off campus during community block. Students work on campus doing community service like sandwich making, work projects in the kitchen and library and support for Lower School students. While off-campus they are able to travel to Glen Cove to work with our local seniors at the senior center and visit local food pantries.
