February is Black History Month and our student-led club, Black Student Alliance, is leading in the celebration. The BSA has planned several events that educate the FA community on Black culture and history.
The BSA-sponsored food drive began on January 31 and will run until March 11. The items collected will be donated to the Union Baptist Church Food Pantry in Hempstead. The church's initiative is to help their predominately black community throughout the year. If you would like to donate, boxes are located in all three division:
Upper School: Math Space, Bridge, Bottom Floor Library, Dolan Center
Middle School: All collaborative spaces
Lower School: Lower School Library
During the month, history classes will be learning about prominent black figures in society. The information and bios shared in each class was written by members of the BSA.
On February 10, the BSA led a Black History Month Trivia game. Congratulations to the Fisk Advisory group on the win!
This upcoming Thursday, February 17, Nell Stokes will be speaking to the school about her experience living in segregated Alabama and participating in the Montgomery Bus Boycott as a teenager.
To finish up the week, the BSA will be hosting a cultural celebrates which includes, food music and discussion.
